Joining the elite global club of apps recently, JioHotstar, the streaming platform which is  owned by JioStar, has crossed 1 billion downloads on Google Play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Becoming India’s Largest Streaming Service By Scale<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Country\u2019s OTT (over-the-top) platform, which is also India\u2019s largest media conglomerate, has crossed over one billion downloads on Google Play in India reportedly<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Considering the latest numbers, the platform now claims 300 million paid subscribers and more than 500 million monthly active users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By gaining this position, JioHotstar has become India’s largest streaming service by scale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When it comes to the OTT platforms, they already have a close race in terms of subscribers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coming to the JioHotstar, it was first time launched in February as the combined platform of JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So far, the platform has about 300 million subscribers as per the sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This holds a great significance compared to Netflix, which is present in around 190 countries, and is said to have about 309.8 million subscribers as of September, according to Bloomberg Consensus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

JioHotstar presently leads the OTT market in the country, with over 500 million monthly active users said the sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Besides Netflix, there are other major platforms in India which already have over one billion downloads on Google Play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The list includes the e-commerce major\u2019s free streaming platform, Amazon MX Player and Prime Video also has over 500 million downloads on Google Play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Creating Experiences That Feels Personal, Purposeful, and Limitless<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This Tuesday, the chief executive officer (CEO), digital, JioStar, Kiran Mani posted in his LinkedIn post, “Today, JioHotstar celebrates one billion downloads on the Play Store.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Further adding, “This isn\u2019t about the scale. It\u2019s about connection \u2014 how stories unite us across languages, screens, and generations. It\u2019s about innovation \u2014 where technology meets culture to create experiences that feel personal, purposeful, and limitless. And it\u2019s about the power of choice \u2014 giving a billion people the freedom to watch, feel, and belong, their way.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When it comes to the revenue, Reliance Industries-backed JioStar reported a rise of 127.5 per cent in its net profit to Rs 1,322 crore on a sequential basis during the July\u2013September quarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The chief executive officer (CEO), entertainment, JioStar, Kevin Vaz said that the company is focusing on bringing audiences to its platforms on a daily basis with long-running series, during the recent earnings call.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier, JioHotstar released an AI-powered series, Mahabharat: Ek Dharmayudh, in collaboration with Collective Artists Network, which became one of its largest shows on the platform with 26.5 million video views during October this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When it comes to India, only Netflix operates on a subscription video-on-demand model, among the major streaming platforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the other hand, JioHotstar and Amazon\u2019s Prime Video have shifted to hybrid models, including advertisements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
