However, loans against <strong>primary bullion silver or gold<\/strong> and <strong>financial instruments backed by bullion<\/strong>, such as ETFs or mutual funds, remain prohibited due to <a href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/wealth\/borrow\/loan-against-silver-not-just-gold-you-can-take-loan-against-white-metal-know-what-updated-rbi-guidelines-say-about-that\/articleshow\/125139148.cms?from=mdr\">regulatory concerns.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Eligibility and Pledge Limits<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Borrowers will be able to pledge <strong>up to 10 kilograms of silver ornaments<\/strong> and <strong>500 grams of silver coins<\/strong> to obtain loans. For gold, the limits are <strong>1 kilogram for ornaments<\/strong> and <strong>50 grams for coins<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The RBI has also set <strong>Loan-to-Value (LTV)<\/strong> ratios for gold and silver loans:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Up to \u20b92.5 lakh: <strong>85% LTV<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u20b92.5\u20135 lakh: <strong>80% LTV<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Above \u20b95 lakh: <strong>75% LTV<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Valuation and Transparency Rules<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To ensure fairness, silver and gold will be valued at the <strong>lower of<\/strong> the 30-day average or the previous day\u2019s closing price published by <strong>IBJA<\/strong> or a <strong>SEBI-regulated commodity exchange<\/strong>. Only the <strong>intrinsic metal value<\/strong> will be considered \u2014 gemstones and other elements will be excluded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Borrowers must be present during testing, receive a <strong>valuation certificate<\/strong>, and be provided with loan documents in their <strong>preferred or local language<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Collateral Management and Consumer Protection<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Collateral must be stored in <strong>secured vaults<\/strong>, handled only by authorized bank employees. Surprise audits and regular verifications are mandatory. Lenders must return pledged collateral <strong>within seven working days<\/strong> after full repayment. Delays beyond this period will attract a <strong>compensation of \u20b95,000 per day<\/strong> to the borrower.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In case of loan default, lenders may <strong>auction pledged silver or gold<\/strong>, but only after notifying borrowers. The <strong>reserve price<\/strong> must be at least <strong>90% of the current market value<\/strong>, or <strong>85%<\/strong> if auctions fail twice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A Step Toward Greater Financial Inclusion<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The inclusion of silver in secured lending frameworks will help <strong>small borrowers and artisans<\/strong> access affordable short-term credit.
