Each system can generate <strong>around 120 units of power per month<\/strong>, which is sufficient to meet the electricity needs of families consuming <strong>less than 100 units<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Any surplus electricity produced can be <strong>sold back to MSEDCL<\/strong>, enabling families to earn a modest income in addition to enjoying free energy. The project will be rolled out on a <strong>first-come, first-served<\/strong> basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Financial Structure and Subsidy Support<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>SMART scheme<\/strong> is backed by a total allocation of <strong>\u20b9655 crore<\/strong>, targeting <strong>5 lakh households<\/strong>\u2014including <strong>1.54 lakh BPL<\/strong> and <strong>3.45 lakh EWS<\/strong> families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beneficiaries are eligible for combined subsidies from both the <strong>Central and State Governments<\/strong>, significantly reducing their financial contribution:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>BPL Consumers:<\/strong> \u20b930,000 (Central) + \u20b917,500 (State) = \u20b947,500 subsidy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>EWS Consumers (&lt;100 units\/month):<\/strong> \u20b930,000 (Central) + \u20b910,000 (State) = \u20b940,000 subsidy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>SC\/ST Consumers:<\/strong> \u20b930,000 (Central) + \u20b915,000 (State) = \u20b945,000 subsidy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>With these benefits, beneficiaries will pay only a minimal remaining amount for a <strong>25-year supply of clean, free electricity<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A Step Toward Energy Independence<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>According to <strong>MSEDCL Chairman and Managing Director Lokesh Chandra<\/strong>, the SMART scheme is not just about affordability\u2014it is about <strong>energy self-reliance<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThis initiative will ensure that even the poorest households can access clean energy, reduce their electricity bills, and contribute to a sustainable future,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The scheme complements the <strong>Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar Free Electricity Scheme<\/strong>, creating a unified approach to solar adoption across India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Empowering Low-Income Families Through Solar Energy<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>By integrating renewable energy into low-income households, the <strong>SMART scheme<\/strong> promises multiple benefits:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>25 years of free, sustainable electricity<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Reduced burden on state power grids<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Opportunity for households to earn from surplus power<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Lower carbon footprint and cleaner environment<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>As Maharashtra accelerates toward its renewable energy targets, the <strong>SMART scheme<\/strong> stands out as a model for inclusive, sustainable development \u2014 ensuring that green energy truly reaches the grassroots level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/news\/politics-and-nation\/maharashtra-plans-free-power-for-those-who-consume-up-to-100-units\/articleshow\/74021095.cms?from=mdr\">Image Source<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has unveiled a transformative green energy initiative \u2014 the Swayampurna Maharashtra Residential Rooftop (SMART) Scheme \u2014 designed to make electricity free for the state\u2019s poorest citizens for the next 25 years.
