This critical link will cut cross-city travel times, providing direct access to the airport while decongesting overburdened surface routes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Phase Three: A 44 km North-South Underground Corridor<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>final phase<\/strong>, stretching <strong>44 km<\/strong>, will complete a <strong>continuous north-south corridor<\/strong>, enabling uninterrupted freight and passenger movement across Mumbai. This deep tunnel will dramatically reduce pressure on existing surface infrastructure, improving travel efficiency from the city\u2019s southern tip to its northern suburbs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Complementing Ongoing Mega Projects<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The proposed tunnel network complements major infrastructure works currently underway, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <strong>9 km Orange Gate\u2013Marine Drive tunnel<\/strong>, linking the <strong>Eastern Freeway to the Coastal Road<\/strong>, targeted for completion by <strong>2028\u201329<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>11.85 km Thane\u2013Borivali twin tunnel<\/strong> under the <strong>Sanjay Gandhi National Park<\/strong>, expected to open by <strong>2028<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Together, these projects reflect Mumbai\u2019s strategy to modernize mobility, create alternate routes, and reclaim surface space for pedestrians and public transport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A Vision for a Decongested, Connected Mumbai<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Once completed, Mumbai\u2019s tunnel network could transform urban commuting, cutting travel time, curbing pollution, and improving logistics efficiency.
