{"id":1302173,"date":"2025-11-04T08:52:13","date_gmt":"2025-11-04T03:22:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/?p=1302173"},"modified":"2025-11-04T08:52:43","modified_gmt":"2025-11-04T03:22:43","slug":"air-india-demands-rs-10000-crore-from-parent-firms-to-keep-flying","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/air-india-demands-rs-10000-crore-from-parent-firms-to-keep-flying\/","title":{"rendered":"Air India Demands Rs 10,000 Crore From Parent Firms To Keep Flying"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Months after the tragic Ahmedabad plane crash that killed over 240 people, Air India has requested Rs 10,000 crore ($1.1 billion) in financial assistance from its owners, Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines, according to Bloomberg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"465\" src=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Untitled-design-3.png\" alt=\"Air India Demands Rs 10,000 Crore From Parent Firms To Keep Flying\" class=\"wp-image-1302188\" srcset=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Untitled-design-3.png 1000w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Untitled-design-3-300x140.png 300w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Untitled-design-3-768x357.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The airline has sought these funds to upgrade systems and services and to build in-house engineering and maintenance units.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Air India Seeks \u20b910,000 Crore Aid from Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines After Ahmedabad Plane Crash<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Air India\u2019s financial situation has deteriorated in recent months, making it difficult for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesnownews.com\/business-economy\/companies\/air-india-in-turbulence-the-maharaja-needs-rs-10000-crore-to-stay-in-the-sky-report-article-153079859\">company<\/a> to achieve its goal of breaking even by March 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The airline is jointly owned by Tata Sons (74.9%) and Singapore Airlines (25.1%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Any financial support is expected to be split according to ownership stakes and may come either as an interest-free loan or a fresh equity infusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>India\u2019s aviation industry is currently highly competitive, with most airlines facing growing financial losses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>IndiGo, operated by InterGlobe Aviation, is the only profitable carrier in the market, controlling over 64% of the market share.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Air India\u2019s turnaround strategy has faced multiple setbacks throughout the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Setbacks Faced By Air India\u2019s Turnaround Efforts This Year<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In May, the airline had to operate longer non-stop west-bound flights due to airspace restrictions following a military standoff between India and Pakistan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These restrictions came after Operation Sindoor, India\u2019s pre-emptive military strike on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The strike followed a terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 people, most of them tourists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a result of the airspace closure, fuel and operational costs for Air India increased significantly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The situation worsened further after the Ahmedabad plane crash on June 12, when a Boeing 787 Dreamliner bound for London crashed shortly after take-off, killing all but one passenger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following the crash, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) ordered a comprehensive safety audit of Air India\u2019s operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In response, the airline reduced its international widebody services by 15% between June and August, which led to further revenue decline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier this week, Air India CEO Campbell Wilson announced that the airline expects to lose around Rs 4,000 crore this year, mainly because of Pakistan\u2019s airspace restrictions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhile there are many uncertainties affecting travel demand, they cannot derail our long-term plans,\u201d said Campbell Wilson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The funding request underscores the growing difficulty for Air India to remain competitive, even with Tata Group\u2019s ownership and Singapore Airlines\u2019 partnership.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Months after the tragic Ahmedabad plane crash that killed over 240 people, Air India has requested Rs 10,000 crore ($1.1 billion) in financial assistance from its owners, Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines, according to Bloomberg.
