The CNAP feature enables users to view the name of the caller based on verified KYC data<\/strong> during incoming<\/a> calls \u2014 similar to Truecaller but far more reliable, since it is verified by telecom operators rather than being crowdsourced. This initiative aims to significantly reduce phone scams, impersonation, and digital frauds<\/strong> such as \u201cdigital arrest\u201d and financial phishing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regulatory Push For Default Activation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Initially, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI)<\/strong> had recommended that CNAP be activated only upon user request<\/strong>. However, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT)<\/strong> proposed that the feature be enabled by default<\/strong> for all subscribers, with an option to opt out.
