Union Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw<\/strong> announced that the projects approved<\/a> under the first tranche focus on manufacturing printed circuit boards (PCBs), copper-clad laminates, camera modules<\/strong>, andpolypropylene films<\/strong>. He emphasized that this marks India\u2019s transition from assembling finished products to manufacturing critical components and modules domestically, which will substantially reduce the country\u2019s import dependence. The initiative is expected to cut India\u2019s import bill by \u20b918,000\u201320,000 crore annually<\/strong>and enable38\u201340% domestic value addition.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the approved companies, Kaynes Circuits<\/strong> leads with four proposals covering PCBs, HDI boards, camera modules, and laminates. SRF<\/strong> will manufacture polypropylene films used in capacitors, while Syrma Strategic Electronics<\/strong> and Ascent Circuits<\/strong> will produce multi-layer PCBs essential for industries like consumer electronics, medical devices, automotive, and aerospace<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ECMS Projects to Make India Self-Reliant and a Global Electronics Export Hub<\/strong><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tamil Nadu<\/strong> will host five of the seven projects, with Madhya Pradesh<\/strong> and Andhra Pradesh<\/strong> each housing one. Vaishnaw stated that these new plants will meet 20% of India\u2019s multi-layer PCB demand<\/strong>, <\/strong>15% of camera module demand<\/strong>, and ensure 100% self-sufficiency<\/strong> in copper-clad laminates and polypropylene films, which are currently imported. Furthermore, 60% of the production<\/strong> from these plants will be exported, boosting India\u2019s presence in the global electronics supply chain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ECMS scheme<\/strong>, launched on April 8, 2025<\/strong>, with an outlay of \u20b922,919 crores<\/strong>, aims to build a robust domestic ecosystem for electronic components and strengthen India\u2019s export capabilities, moving the nation closer to becoming a global electronics manufacturing hub.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
