Zafar highlighted that the figure came from post-secondary institutions that reported losing contact with thousands of their <a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/world\/rest-of-world\/47000-foreign-students-may-now-be-in-canada-illegally-says-ircc-india-one-of-the-top-countries\/articleshow\/124322590.cms\">registered<\/a> international students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">India Tops the List of Non-Compliance Cases<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When asked about the countries with the highest levels of student visa violations, Zafar identified <strong>India<\/strong> as one of the top contributors. In fact, earlier IRCC data revealed that during <strong>spring 2024<\/strong>, more than <strong>50,000 foreign students<\/strong> were marked as \u201cno-shows\u201d by their institutions. Of those, <strong>19,582<\/strong> were Indian nationals \u2014 the largest group \u2014 followed by <strong>4,279<\/strong> students from China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Challenges in Tracking and Enforcement<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Tracking non-compliant students remains a major hurdle. IRCC relies heavily on educational institutions to report absences, but there\u2019s no independent mechanism to trace individuals if a school fails to notify the agency. Once reported, cases are referred to the <strong>Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA)<\/strong>, which is responsible for locating and removing individuals who are in violation of their visa terms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe CBSA has an inland investigation team that handles such cases,\u201d Zafar explained. However, the lack of a comprehensive monitoring system means many non-compliant students could remain undetected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Broader Implications<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The findings raise concerns about loopholes in Canada\u2019s international education system \u2014 a sector that contributes billions to the economy.
