For example, a \u20b9100 toll becomes \u20b9200 in cash or \u20b9125 via UPI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Push Towards Digitalisation and Transparency<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Officials said the new rules aim to <strong>reduce cash usage<\/strong>, <strong>enhance transparency<\/strong>, and <strong>streamline toll collection<\/strong>. The move also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newindianexpress.com\/nation\/2025\/Oct\/04\/new-toll-rules-from-nov-15-cash-users-without-fastag-to-pay-twice-the-fee\">builds<\/a> on the success of FASTag, which has <strong>98% penetration<\/strong> and <strong>over 8 crore users<\/strong>. Automated tolling has already helped cut <strong>congestion and wait times<\/strong> across most national highways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The introduction of the <strong>UPI option<\/strong> is meant to help occasional users or those facing <strong>technical issues<\/strong> with their FASTag, providing a convenient alternative while still promoting digital payments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Annual FASTag Pass for Seamless Travel<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In another major step, the government recently launched an <strong>Annual FASTag Pass<\/strong> for non-commercial vehicles like cars and jeeps. The pass, costing <strong>\u20b93,000<\/strong> for one year or <strong>200 toll crossings<\/strong>, eliminates the need for frequent recharges and can be activated within <strong>two hours<\/strong> via the <strong>Rajmarg Yatra App<\/strong> or <strong>NHAI website<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The pass is valid at <strong>1,150 toll plazas<\/strong> nationwide, further simplifying long-distance travel for frequent highway users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Part of a Larger Vision for Smarter Highways<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>With around <strong>45,000 km<\/strong> of national highways under toll collection and <strong>1,200 toll plazas<\/strong> in operation, India\u2019s road infrastructure is undergoing rapid digital transformation.
