Now, Microsoft is applying that same approach to Office productivity tools<\/strong>, enabling anyone \u2014 even without technical expertise \u2014 to build sophisticated reports, models, or proposals using natural language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Agent Mode: A Smarter Copilot<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Agent Mode goes beyond the standard Copilot assistance. It uses OpenAI\u2019s GPT-5<\/strong> to break down large, multi-step tasks into smaller, logical processes \u2014 all of which are visible in a sidebar as they\u2019re executed. This means users can see how the AI plans, reasons, and builds<\/strong> complex outputs, almost like watching an automated macro work in real time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alongside Agent Mode, Microsoft is launching a new Office Agent<\/strong> in Copilot Chat, powered by Anthropic models<\/strong>.
