The congestion charge would require drivers of single-occupancy cars to pay a fee while entering congested zones<\/a><\/strong> like the ORR, one of the most gridlocked stretches in Bengaluru. \u201cIf we enter the ORR and there is only one person in the car, you have to pay money,\u201d said Yulu co-founder R.K. Mishra<\/strong>, adding that the measure would incentivize carpooling and reduce private car usage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other measures in the 90-day action plan<\/strong> include stricter quality checks on road asphalting, accelerated infrastructure works, improved drainage, and pothole repairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

City Leaders Call for Quick Fixes and Long-Term Solutions<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Industry veteran Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw<\/strong>, who has frequently criticized the city\u2019s civic issues, welcomed the government\u2019s assurance to deliver visible improvements within 90 days. \u201cWe must deter the indiscriminate use of private vehicles and introduce deterrents where necessary,\u201d she said, urging quick fixes like road repairs while working toward permanent solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mixed Reactions and Concerns<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Experts, however, have warned that congestion pricing without improved public transport<\/strong> could burden citizens. Entrepreneur T. Mohandas Pai<\/strong> called it \u201ca farce\u201d unless supported by better bus and metro connectivity. Others highlighted that Bengaluru\u2019s transport crisis stems from delayed metro and suburban rail projects<\/strong> and inadequate bus networks, forcing reliance on private vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While still under consideration, the congestion tax proposal reflects growing pressure on authorities to address Bengaluru\u2019s notorious traffic gridlock<\/strong>, pothole-ridden roads, and stalled infrastructure.
