In the first phase, 8.8 km with 38 stations will be operational by 2027, linking Bandra, Kurla, and Sion railway stations with Metro networks and office complexes in BKC. Fares were initially estimated at \u20b921 per km.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Government\u2019s Vision<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Fadnavis stressed that pod taxis must be <strong>world-class, integrated with Mumbai\u2019s single mobility card<\/strong>, and use available infrastructure like skywalks creatively. He added that upcoming projects such as the bullet train and the new High Court complex would increase demand in BKC, making advanced solutions like pod taxis essential for smooth travel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Experts Question Feasibility<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the government\u2019s enthusiasm, <strong>transport experts remain unconvinced<\/strong>. Veteran transport expert A.V. Shenoy argued that pod taxis could become a \u201cwhite elephant,\u201d too expensive and impractical for Mumbai\u2019s diverse commuter base. He noted that unlike trains, Metro, or pod taxis limited to fixed routes, <strong>BEST buses can reach every corner of the city<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">BEST as a Practical Alternative<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Experts suggest scaling up <strong>BEST services with larger fleets, ring services, and dedicated bus lanes<\/strong> as a more cost-effective way to achieve last-mile connectivity. Shenoy emphasised that buses remain the most affordable option for citizens and warned that pod taxis would not cater to all sections of society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Road Ahead<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The government appears committed to pursuing pod taxis, but balancing futuristic infrastructure with affordability will be crucial.
