They argue the move is unconstitutional and violates the right to carry out business freely under <strong>Article 19(1)(g)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Petitioners\u2019 Key Arguments<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Mukul Rohatgi<\/strong>, senior advocate for the association, called the cap <strong>arbitrary<\/strong> and said customers should have the choice to pay more for premium experiences.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He stressed that massive investments go into building multiplexes and the government cannot impose uniform pricing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The order, he argued, was violative of <strong>Article 14<\/strong> (right to equality) and <strong>Article 19(1)(g)<\/strong> (freedom to trade).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Uday Holla<\/strong>, another senior advocate, said treating multiplexes and single-screen theatres alike ignores the <strong>differences in facilities and experiences<\/strong> offered.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Dhyan Chinnappa<\/strong>, appearing for Hombale Films, argued the state has no legal power to fix ticket prices under the <strong>Karnataka Cinemas (Regulation) Act<\/strong>, as Rule 55 only deals with ticket booths.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Government\u2019s Stand<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The state government defended its move, stating it has <strong>not fixed ticket prices<\/strong>, but only imposed a <strong>cap<\/strong> to prevent exorbitant rates. Officials argued the rule is aimed at <strong>consumer protection<\/strong>, making cinema more accessible for families, and that the decision falls well within the ambit of law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Happens Next?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Justice <strong>Ravi V Hosmani<\/strong> has reserved orders and will take up the case on <strong>September 23<\/strong> for interim relief.
