Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) in Delhi is preparing to reopen its upgraded Terminal 2 from October 26, according to a press release by GMR on Monday. The move coincides with the launch of the winter flight schedule and aims to enhance operational efficiency while offering passengers a modernized travel experience. Currently, Terminals 1 and 3 are functional, while Terminal 2 had been closed since April for renovations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Videh Kumar Jaipuriar, CEO of DIAL, described the revamped terminal<\/a> as \u201ca complete reimagination of the passenger journey.\u201d The upgraded facility incorporates innovative technologies such as Self Baggage Drop (SBD) counters and autonomous docking aerobridges, empowering travellers and streamlining airport operations. He emphasized that these world-class enhancements reinforce IGI Airport\u2019s vision to provide an unmatched passenger experience while supporting India\u2019s growing air travel sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The renovated terminal will manage approximately 120 daily domestic flights operated by Air India and IndiGo, which will shift operations from existing terminals to improve efficiency. The refurbishment includes advanced passenger facilities, with SBD counters designed to reduce queue times and give travellers more control over the check-in process. Six new passenger boarding bridges feature autonomous docking technology\u2014the first such implementation in India\u2014enabling faster and safer aircraft handling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, the terminal has undergone extensive mechanical, electrical, and safety upgrades, including modern HVAC and fire safety systems, enhanced power infrastructure, and a high-resolution Flight Information Display System (FIDS). Renovations also include upgraded airside and apron facilities, modern ceilings, skylights, improved flooring, and brighter interiors to enhance accessibility and comfort. Clear signage, accessibility features for persons with reduced mobility, and improved road connectivity further ensure smoother passenger movement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
