This move aims to ease difficulties faced by taxpayers and chartered accountants struggling to access the portal and file returns smoothly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who Needs to File ITR-2?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Many taxpayers use the simpler ITR-1 form, but individuals with more complex financial profiles need to file ITR-2. This includes those with:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Multiple house properties<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Capital gains income<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Foreign income or assets<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Agricultural income exceeding Rs 5,000<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Investments in unlisted equity shares<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Director positions in companies<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Clubbing provisions or foreign account authority<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In short, ITR-2 is mandatory for individuals and Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs) who do not have business or professional income but fall into any of the above categories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Updates to ITR-2 for AY 2025\u201326<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Income Tax Department has introduced several updates in line with the <strong>Finance Act, 2024<\/strong>, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Separate reporting for capital gains before and after July 23, 2024.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Allowance for capital loss on share buybacks if related dividend income is reported.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Raised asset &amp; liability reporting threshold to <strong>Rs 1 crore<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enhanced reporting for deductions and TDS schedules.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Filing Process: Online or Partly Offline<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Taxpayers can file ITR-2 entirely online at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.incometax.gov.in\">incometax.gov.in<\/a> or use the <strong>JSON utility<\/strong> for partial offline filing.
