State-run telecom giant BSNL is set to introduce BSNL Pay<\/strong>, a digital payment service integrated within its Selfcare app. Powered by BHIM UPI<\/strong>, the service will enable users to recharge, pay bills, and transfer money seamlessly. Unlike standalone payment apps, BSNL Pay will be built directly into the telco\u2019s existing ecosystem, promising secure, swift, and smart transactions<\/strong> for millions of subscribers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Rare Turnaround: Profits After 18 Years<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

BSNL\u2019s upcoming digital leap comes on the back of a remarkable financial turnaround. For the first time in 18 years<\/strong>, the company reported consecutive profitable quarters<\/strong>. It posted a net profit of \u20b9262 crore<\/strong> in Q3 FY25<\/a>, followed by \u20b9280 crore<\/strong> in Q4 FY25. This contrasts sharply with the \u20b9849 crore loss during the same quarter last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Union telecom minister Jyotiraditya Scindia highlighted the milestone, stating, \u201cBack-to-back quarterly net profits, not just operating margins, for the first time since 2007.\u201d BSNL\u2019s annual loss has now shrunk to \u20b92,247 crore in FY25, nearly halving from \u20b95,370 crore in FY24.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chairman A. Robert J. Ravi credited the revival to professional management, government support, and disciplined cost control<\/strong>. He added, \u201cBSNL is not just being revived, but redefined.\u201d With a renewed focus on expanding 4G and 5G networks<\/strong>, the telco is eyeing sustained profitability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Strategic Partnerships: Tapping Satellites with Viasat<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In another major move, BSNL partnered with Viasat<\/strong>, a US-based satellite communications provider. The collaboration aims to deliver satellite-powered internet services<\/strong> for consumers, aviation, and security forces in India. This partnership positions BSNL as a strong contender against Elon Musk\u2019s Starlink<\/strong>, which is also preparing to enter the Indian market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Satellite-based services will expand BSNL\u2019s reach to remote regions where traditional telecom networks struggle, aligning with India\u2019s digital inclusion goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With BSNL Pay<\/strong>, improved financials, and strategic global partnerships, the state-owned telecom operator is scripting a rare comeback story<\/strong>.
