For thousands of Indian tech professionals, this meant faster processing and fewer travel disruptions. Its withdrawal now threatens longer waits, travel delays, and risks of losing work authorisation if workers cannot return to the US in time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who Is Still Eligible for Interview Waivers?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>While the programme is largely scrapped, a few categories remain exempt:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Diplomatic and official visa holders<\/strong> (A-1, A-2, C-3 excluding attendants, G-1 to G-4, NATO categories).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Applicants renewing <strong>B-1, B-2, or B1\/B2 visas<\/strong> within <strong>12 months<\/strong> of expiry, provided they were at least 18 when the prior visa was issued.<br>For most employment-based visas like <strong>H-1B<\/strong> and <strong>L1<\/strong>, however, in-person interviews will now be mandatory.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Impact on Indian Tech Workers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Indians account for the <strong>largest share of H-1B visas<\/strong>, securing <strong>77% in 2022<\/strong> and <strong>72.3% in 2023<\/strong>. With the US ending the Dropbox option, experts warn of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Severe appointment delays<\/strong> at US consulates in India.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Higher risk of job loss<\/strong>, as workers could lose work authorisation if they fail to return on time.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Increased costs<\/strong> for companies and workers due to extended stays abroad.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>According to immigration experts, processing that once took weeks under Dropbox may now take <strong>months<\/strong>, potentially disrupting Silicon Valley\u2019s reliance on Indian talent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Expert Reactions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Bill Hing, professor at the University of San Francisco, noted the policy \u201c<em>will entail delays and could be costly, as workers stuck abroad may miss work<\/em>.\u201d Immigration lawyer Kelli Duehning added that <strong>wait times in India could become \u201cvery, very long\u201d<\/strong>, putting jobs at risk.
