Advertising violations could attract <strong>two years of imprisonment and\/or fines up to \u20b950 lakh<\/strong>. Notably, players themselves will not face punishment\u2014the crackdown targets platform providers, facilitators, and advertisers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Boost for E-Sports and Social Gaming<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The bill carves out a supportive framework for <strong>e-sports and online social gaming<\/strong>, which constitute two-thirds of the industry. The government will set up schemes, budgets, and an authority to promote these sectors, aiming to create jobs and expand the legitimate gaming ecosystem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Industry Resistance vs Govt Push<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Gaming firms had opposed the ban, claiming it would hurt innovation and revenues. However, the government noted repeated bypassing of GST rules and earlier regulatory proposals, as well as rising complaints from the public.
