however, only \u20b951 crore in fines have been collected thus far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"603\" src=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Screenshot-2025-02-18-at-9.45.37\u202fAM-1024x603-1.png\" alt=\"AI Cameras Impose Rs 470 Crore In Traffic Penalties On Mumbai-Pune Expressway\" class=\"wp-image-1298929\" srcset=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Screenshot-2025-02-18-at-9.45.37\u202fAM-1024x603-1.png 1024w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Screenshot-2025-02-18-at-9.45.37\u202fAM-1024x603-1-300x177.png 300w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Screenshot-2025-02-18-at-9.45.37\u202fAM-1024x603-1-768x452.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The 95-kilometer motorway&#8217;s AI-powered system was implemented to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.moneycontrol.com\/news\/india\/ai-cameras-slap-rs-470-crore-in-fines-on-mumbai-pune-expressway-barely-rs-51-crore-paid-13431078.html\">increase adherence and lower accident rates.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ITMS on Mumbai\u2013Pune Expressway Issues \u20b9470 Crore in E-Challans, Recovers Only \u20b951 Crore<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to PTI, a rise in fines, especially for speeding, has made transporters resentful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With 17.20 lakh e-challans for speed limit violations, cars are the most common offenders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other vehicle categories and their challan counts are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Heavy goods carriers: 3.27 lakh<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Buses and other heavy passenger vehicles: 2.48 lakh<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Taxis: 2 lakh<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Light goods carriers: 1.2 lakh<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Medium goods vehicles: 85,468<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Articulated heavy goods vehicles: 30,450<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Medium passenger buses: 14,764<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Proctech Solutions ITMS LLP, which manages ITMS operations, makes \u20b9654.90 per challan (including GST).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In exchange for processing 8.84 lakh e-challans between July and December 2024, the operator has already received \u20b957.94 crore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ITMS Equipped With Advanced Network of Gantries, Cameras, and Smart Detection Systems<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to hundreds of CCTV cameras and 40 gantries, the ITMS infrastructure also has weigh-in-motion sensors, vehicle classification systems (AVCC), dynamic messaging systems, speed detection cameras, and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Traffic violation reports are created and validated by operator personnel before being authorized by RTO officials at the central Command and Control Center (CCC), which is in charge of operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Khandala Ghat section, where the speed limit is 40 kmph for heavy vehicles and 60 kmph for cars, is where most overspeeding fines originate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other parts of the motorway have speed limits of 80 kmph for large vehicles and 100 kmph for small ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 40 kmph limit in the ghat, according to transporters, is excessively low, especially on the 10-km downhill section between Lonavala and Khalapur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They contend that this slows down traffic flow generally and makes it more difficult for large vehicles to maintain control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the Pune\u2013Mumbai route, the state government is thinking of raising the heavy vehicle speed limit in the ghat to 45\u201350 kmph.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Transporters went on strike last month in protest of what they described as &#8220;rampant&#8221;
