Aircraft Shortages from Major Retrofit<\/strong><br>Air India began retrofitting <strong>26 Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners<\/strong> in July 2025 to modernize cabins, upgrade safety systems, and enhance passenger comfort. Pakistan Airspace Closure<\/strong><br>Since <strong>April 2025<\/strong>, Pakistan\u2019s airspace has been closed to Indian airlines, forcing reroutes with fuel stops in Europe. The Delhi\u2013Washington route, already long, became significantly costlier and less efficient to operate, eroding its viability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Passenger Impact and Alternatives<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Air India will contact affected passengers to offer <strong>rebooking on alternative routes<\/strong> or <strong>full refunds<\/strong>. Washington-bound travelers can connect via Air India\u2019s flights to <strong>New York-JFK, Newark, Chicago, or San Francisco<\/strong>, partnering with <strong>Alaska Airlines, United Airlines, and Delta Air Lines<\/strong> for the final leg. Through-checked baggage will be available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Broader Network<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the suspension, Air India will maintain non-stop services to <strong>six other North American cities<\/strong>, including <strong>Toronto<\/strong> and <strong>Vancouver<\/strong>, while continuing its U.S. network realignment amid modernization efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Bigger Picture<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The suspension reflects how <strong>airline operations are deeply affected by both internal fleet decisions and external geopolitical factors<\/strong>.
