The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has proposed<\/a> an alternative road network near the Army Ordnance Corps (AOC) Centre in order to ease traffic congestion caused by the closure of military roads in Secunderabad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

GHMC Proposes Rs 960 Crore Road Network Near AOC Centre<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under this initiative, GHMC is planning to construct three flyovers, one Road over Bridge (RoB), and at-grade roads at three locations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These flyovers are expected to connect the Wellington Road to the Elevated Rotary, East Marredpally to the Elevated Rotary and from there to Safilguda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Besides this there is a six-lane RoB which is planned over the Secunderabad Military Siding lines, along with at-grade roads at Wellington Road, East Marredpally Road, and from Mahindra Hills to the RK Puram RoB.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They have estimated the total project cost at Rs 960 crore, out of that Rs 307 crores are  allocated for construction, while remaining Rs 490 crore will be utilised for land acquisition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the implementation of this new road network, they are expecting to bring major relief to commuters in Malkajgiri, Safilguda, Sainikpuri, and other nearby areas who currently face difficulties due to military road closures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Storm Water Plan To Link Hyderabad\u2019s Tech Zones<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the meantime, Hyderabad continues to face major flooding problems whenever there is moderate to heavy rainfall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So GHMC had proposed a storm water plan<\/a> to link Hyderabad\u2019s Tech Zones with lakes and colonies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has come up with a new proposal: a comprehensive Storm Water Master Plan that spans the entire Telangana Core Urban Region (TCUR) as the city continues to face major flooding problems whenever there is moderate to heavy rainfall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a proposal to the State government, the GHMC stressed the importance of going beyond the city limits to study and manage the region\u2019s stormwater systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When it comes to the Telangana Core Urban Region, it is a dense and dynamic urban agglomeration that includes Hyderabad, major IT hubs, commercial zones and residential corridors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Besides this, it is home to interlinked natural water systems, such as the Musi River and lakes like Hussain Sagar and Osman Sagar, that play a critical role in the city\u2019s drainage and ecology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moving ahead, GHMC stated, \u201cIn order to understand and manage urban flooding effectively, we need a region-wide hydrological study. The stormwater systems don\u2019t stop at municipal boundaries,\u201d in its proposal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this master plan, the GHMC is planning to map the natural and man-made storm water drainage systems, including the nalas and lake catchments, many of which stretch into districts surrounding Hyderabad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
