State-run telecom company BSNL has partnered with Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) to deploy India\u2019s first 5G Captive Non-Public Network (CNPN) in the refinery sector, marking a milestone in industrial digital transformation. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed during the \u201cIndustry 4.0 Workshop for CPSEs\u201d organised by the Ministry of Finance in Guwahati.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initiative aims to deliver secure, ultra-reliable, and real-time industrial connectivity,<\/a> using indigenous 5G infrastructure for mission-critical operations. Although BSNL has only recently rolled out 4G services, it already holds spectrum suitable for 5G, enabling this advanced deployment. Officials said the project will serve as a replicable model for other industrial sectors, supporting the Government of India\u2019s vision of a digitally empowered and self-reliant Bharat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma hailed the development as a proud moment for the state and a major step forward for Digital Assam and Atmanirbhar Bharat. He highlighted the network\u2019s potential to usher in cutting-edge technologies like IoT, AR\/VR, Big Data, and digital twins into industrial operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BSNL Chairman and Managing Director A. Robert J Ravi described the deployment as a technological leap that could redefine how core industries function, enhancing both productivity and innovation. BSNL Enterprise Business Director Papa Sudhakara Rao called it a historic milestone in the adoption of 5G and Industry 4.0 in India\u2019s industrial ecosystem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to NRL officials, the 5G CNPN will improve operational efficiency, strengthen cybersecurity, and enable real-time IoT monitoring, AR\/VR-based training, and advanced simulation tools, paving the way for future-ready industrial operations across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
