{"id":1298514,"date":"2025-08-05T10:39:35","date_gmt":"2025-08-05T05:09:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/?p=1298514"},"modified":"2025-08-05T10:42:52","modified_gmt":"2025-08-05T05:12:52","slug":"indians-lost-rs-136-crore-as-1-65-lakh-schengen-visas-rejected-in-12-months","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/indians-lost-rs-136-crore-as-1-65-lakh-schengen-visas-rejected-in-12-months\/","title":{"rendered":"Indians Lost Rs 136 Crore As 1.65 Lakh Schengen Visas Rejected In 12 Months"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Indian tourists are having a lot of trouble getting Schengen visas in 2025, as the number of rejections is rapidly increasing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rejection rates for Indian applicants have sharply increased in nations like Germany, France, Italy, and Switzerland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"642\" src=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Screenshot-2025-03-20-at-7.42.06\u202fAM-1024x642.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1298516\" srcset=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Screenshot-2025-03-20-at-7.42.06\u202fAM-1024x642.png 1024w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Screenshot-2025-03-20-at-7.42.06\u202fAM-300x188.png 300w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Screenshot-2025-03-20-at-7.42.06\u202fAM-768x482.png 768w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Screenshot-2025-03-20-at-7.42.06\u202fAM-1536x964.png 1536w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Screenshot-2025-03-20-at-7.42.06\u202fAM-2048x1285.png 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Schengen Visa Rejections Surge for Indian Travellers in 2025<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More than 1.65 lakh Indian visa applications were denied in 2024, resulting in significant financial losses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Due to non-refundable visa fees, hotel reservations, airline tickets, and travel insurance, these <a href=\"https:\/\/www.angelone.in\/news\/economy\/germany-france-italy-tighten-schengen-visa-rules-for-indians-rejections-surge-in-2024\">rejections<\/a> resulted in a loss of more than \u20b9136 crore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Germany and Italy each rejected over 15,000 applications, the Netherlands rejected 14,569 applications, Switzerland rejected 26,126 applications, and France rejected 31,314 applications, costing \u20b925.8 crore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to expedite appeals, Germany terminated its informal appeal procedure, formerly known as &#8220;remonstration.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rejected applicants in Germany now have to go through the entire legal process, which makes it more difficult and expensive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many Schengen consulates are reporting lengthy wait times; appointments for visas can take up to two months, particularly during busy times of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The countries most impacted by appointment delays and backlogs are France and Germany.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tourists are not the only ones having trouble obtaining visas; working professionals, small business owners, and students are also having difficulty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once a well-liked study abroad location for Indian students, Germany is now more difficult to reach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Travellers are advised to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Apply early<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Submit clear and complete documentation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Prepare for longer wait times<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Consider alternative travel destinations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Indian tourists are experiencing emotional and financial hardship as a result of the increase in visa denials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>India\u2013EU Travel Ties at Risk Without Urgent Visa Reforms<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Long-term harm to the India-EU travel relationship could result from a lack of substantial reforms or improvements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Due to many countries denying their visas, Indian tourists lost up to \u20b9662 crore in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because countries require pre-purchased lodging, travel insurance, and possibly non-refundable airline tickets, visa refusals often lead to additional financial losses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As in many other countries, the price of a Schengen visa went up by 12% in June 2024 (adults: \u20ac90, children: \u20ac45). In New Zealand, a tourist visa now costs NZD 188 instead of NZD 119.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2024, outbound travel increased by 8.5%, with 25 million Indians traveling abroad between January and October.
