Western Railway had tested a similar system in 2019, but the project was rolled back due to <strong>ventilation and overcrowding issues<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Post-Incident Safety Measures and Innovations<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The prototype was developed following a commitment made by Union Railway Minister <strong>Ashwini Vaishnaw<\/strong>, after the Mumbra accident where passengers fell from overcrowded, open-door trains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To counter earlier concerns of <strong>poor airflow<\/strong>, the redesigned coach includes <strong>ventilation units<\/strong> to pump fresh air and <strong>vestibules<\/strong> between coaches for better passenger movement. Grab handles will also be added near doors to enhance grip and safety. These handles, fixed to horizontal rods on the ceiling, will cost \u20b92.4 crore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Enhanced Capacity and Upcoming Fleet<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>CR is not stopping at safety upgrades. With over <strong>6.5\u20137 million commuters<\/strong> relying on Mumbai locals daily, plans are underway to scale up capacity significantly:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>238 AC local trains<\/strong> are being manufactured.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Additional <strong>non-AC locals<\/strong> are being redesigned at <strong>Integral Coach Factory, Chennai<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>More <strong>15-car services<\/strong> will be added, with 40\u201350 services planned by <strong>December<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Five 12-car trains<\/strong> will be inducted shortly to ease congestion on high-density routes, especially <strong>CSMT-Kalyan, Kasara, and Karjat<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Looking Ahead: Safer, Smarter Commutes<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Once approved, the closed-door system could <strong>revolutionize safety<\/strong> on Mumbai\u2019s suburban network.
