At present, <strong>25% of all railway tickets<\/strong> are booked via digital platforms such as the <strong>UTS mobile app, IRCTC website, and ATVM machines<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, to attract more users and improve accessibility\u2014especially among those less tech-savvy\u2014Railways is looking at <strong>simpler, more intuitive solutions<\/strong>. A WhatsApp-based ticketing platform is one such solution that could bridge the digital gap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How Will the WhatsApp Ticketing Work?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The system is expected to work similarly to metro services already using WhatsApp. Here\u2019s a possible flow based on existing models:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Scan a QR code<\/strong> at the station or from a website poster<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A WhatsApp chat opens automatically<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Send a \u201cHi\u201d message to start<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Get options for booking journey tickets<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make payment digitally<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Receive an <strong>e-ticket with a QR code<\/strong> instantly<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Western Railway CPRO <strong>Vineet Abhishek<\/strong>, this chat-based ticketing solution is under active evaluation. A tender process will be initiated after feasibility checks are complete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Addressing Potential Challenges<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>While this innovation could greatly <strong>simplify the ticketing process<\/strong>, officials are <strong>concerned about potential misuse<\/strong>, especially since QR-based systems on UTS have seen abuse in the past.
