Two Major UPI Outages Prompt Action<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>NPCI\u2019s decision follows two significant outages on <strong>March 26<\/strong> and <strong>April 12<\/strong>, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiatoday.in\/amp\/technology\/news\/story\/upi-rules-update-august-1-new-limits-autopay-timings-and-more-all-you-need-to-know-2760646-2025-07-24\">disrupted crores of transactions<\/a> and frustrated users nationwide. As UPI now handles nearly <strong>85% of India\u2019s digital payments<\/strong> and dominates nearly <strong>60% of real-time global retail payments<\/strong>, any disruption has widespread impact. These changes are proactive steps to prevent future breakdowns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">New Rule #1: <strong>Limit on Balance Check Requests<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>UPI users will now be restricted to <strong>50 balance checks per day<\/strong>, down from the current unlimited access. While most users are unlikely to hit this cap, the move targets bots, excessive usage, and network congestion that can slow down the platform for others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">New Rule #2: <strong>Fixed Time Slots for AutoPay Transactions<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>AutoPay payments\u2014including <strong>EMIs, subscriptions, and utility bills<\/strong>\u2014will now be processed in <strong>designated time slots<\/strong> instead of being randomly executed throughout the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While this change occurs in the backend, users will continue to see their AutoPay deductions as usual.
