He calls the concept of non-AC trains <strong>&#8220;outdated&#8221; for a developed India<\/strong>. In his view:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Even the poor deserve <strong>air-conditioned travel<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Trains like <strong>Garib Rath<\/strong> once offered AC travel at subsidised fares\u2014<strong>a better model<\/strong>, according to him<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>India should <strong>phase out<\/strong> non-AC sleeper trains in favor of <strong>modern, comfortable alternatives<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Can Railways Afford This Shift?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A major concern is revenue loss. But Mani believes that <strong>premium trains like Vande Bharat<\/strong> can <strong>subsidise<\/strong> the cost of cheaper AC travel for economically weaker passengers.
