Launched in <strong>2016 by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI)<\/strong>, UPI took just <strong>nine years<\/strong> to beat a legacy global player like Visa, which operates in over <strong>200 countries<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By contrast, UPI\u2019s cross-border reach is currently limited to <strong>just seven countries<\/strong>, yet its <strong>daily transaction count is higher<\/strong>, indicating its massive untapped global potential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">UPI: Transforming Digital Payments in India<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>UPI is a real-time, inter-bank payment system built for mobile platforms. It allows instant money transfers, bill payments, merchant transactions, and peer-to-peer payments \u2014 all from a smartphone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the <strong>International Monetary Fund (IMF)<\/strong>, UPI is now a <strong>global case study<\/strong> in interoperability and rapid digital adoption. As per the latest data, UPI processes <strong>over 18 billion transactions monthly<\/strong>, contributing the lion\u2019s share to India\u2019s <strong>electronic retail payments ecosystem<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cards in Decline, UPI on the Rise<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>As UPI usage soars, traditional payment methods such as <strong>credit and debit cards are seeing a decline<\/strong>.
