Pune Metro Expansion Gets Rolling<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

With approvals now secured for Pune Metro’s extensions from PCMC to Nigdi and Swargate to Katraj, groundwork is accelerating. Construction is already underway on the PCMC\u2013Nigdi corridor, and the tender process for the Swargate\u2013Katraj route is expected to conclude soon. These expansions are part of the city’s broader push to improve mass transit infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

12 New Trains Ordered from Titagarh Rail<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

To support operations on the new corridors, Maha Metro has placed an order for 12 new metro train sets. The procurement contract has been awarded to Titagarh Rail Systems Limited<\/strong> and Titagarh Firema<\/strong>, reinforcing the ‘Make in India’ initiative. The total cost of this order stands at \u20b9430.53 crore<\/strong>, with deliveries planned over the next 30 months<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All the new trains will be manufactured in India using aluminium-based construction<\/strong>, matching the design and features of Pune Metro\u2019s current fleet. These include air conditioning<\/strong>, automatic doors<\/strong>, and automated passenger information systems<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fleet Size to Rise to 46 Trains<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Pune Metro currently operates 34 trains. With the addition of these 12 new sets, the fleet will grow to 46 trains<\/strong>. Each train set will include three coaches<\/strong>, offering capacity and comfort to cater to the projected increase in ridership on the extended routes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maha Metro officials emphasize that placing the order well in advance ensures there will be no delay in train operations<\/strong> once construction is completed on the new corridors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shravan Hardikar, Managing Director of Maha Metro, said, \u201cMaha Metro has placed an order for 12 new trains for the extended PCMC\u2013Nigdi corridor of Pune Metro. This will ensure that as soon as the construction of the extended routes is completed, train services can begin without delay. This will significantly benefit commuters on the PCMC\u2013Nigdi stretch.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These extensions and new train acquisitions are expected to significantly ease traffic congestion, reduce travel time, and improve public transportation accessibility for thousands of daily commuters in Pune.
