Commuters in Bengaluru are set to benefit from a major digital upgrade as the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) partners with the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC)<\/strong> to enhance convenience and connectivity for Namma Metro users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One App for the Entire Journey<\/strong>
The move means metro passengers will soon be able to book tickets directly through popular mobility apps<\/a> like Tummoc, Rapido<\/strong>, and others, eliminating the need to juggle multiple platforms. BMRCL officials confirmed that this initiative is part of a broader end-to-end travel solution<\/strong> aimed at unifying metro travel with first- and last-mile connectivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis integration will let commuters plan their entire trip\u2014from booking an auto or cab to getting a BMTC bus pass and metro ticket\u2014using a single app of their choice,\u201d said a BMRCL official.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

How ONDC Will Help<\/strong>
The ONDC platform connects over ten mobility apps<\/strong>, allowing users to choose their preferred app<\/strong> for booking and payments. This ensures greater flexibility and a truly unified travel experience. Officials noted that the system will help reduce wait times<\/strong>, improve accessibility, and promote the use of public transportation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPublic transport is only as strong as its last-mile reach. By giving commuters all-in-one access, we are improving efficiency and ease,\u201d the official added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Building on Existing Digital Services<\/strong>
BMRCL has already taken steps toward digitization. Since November 2022<\/strong>, WhatsApp offers QR code-based metro ticketing, though it does not cover first- or last-mile connections. Meanwhile, Paytm supports QR code ticketing<\/strong>, and Amazon Pay allows smart card recharges<\/strong>. BMRCL also has its own app for direct top-ups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, with ONDC integration, passengers will be able to handle all transport modes\u2014auto, bus, metro\u2014on a single platform<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Commuters React Positively<\/strong>
For many commuters, this could be a game-changer. Rahul Sharma, a daily metro user, shared, \u201cIf done right, this new system will save me a lot of time and effort. But I hope BMRCL launches it soon without delays. A lot of us use multiple travel modes every day, so this is really needed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
