In a bold step to improve traffic safety and streamline road usage, Goa CM Pramod Sawant has announced a series of reforms targeting abandoned vehicles, illegal rentals, and public transport inefficiencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abandoned Vehicles to be Scrapped<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Vehicles parked in one spot for more than eight days on public roads will now be classified as abandoned<\/strong> and sent directly for scrapping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNotices will be sent. If no action is taken, the vehicle goes for scrap, and the owner cannot claim it,\u201d Sawant warned.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

In Panaji alone, over 250 abandoned vehicles<\/strong> have already been seized, with the crackdown expected to expand state-wide. The move comes amid increasing clutter on newly widened roads and growing complaints about blocked streets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Crackdown on Illegal Rentals<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The state is also targeting illegal vehicle rentals<\/strong>, especially those operating without licenses. So far, 550 private vehicles<\/strong> have been penalized for functioning as unauthorized rentals. Reports have been forwarded to the transport department for license cancellation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With 365 accident deaths<\/strong> annually\u2014many involving rental vehicles\u2014Sawant called the issue \u201cserious.\u201d Notably, 70% of the victims are not at fault<\/strong>, and pedestrians account for 50%<\/strong> of the fatalities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
