With the doubling now completed, <strong>passenger convenience and freight operations<\/strong> are set for a major upgrade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Travel Time Improvements<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently, trains take the following time to cross this ghat section:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Mail\/Express trains<\/strong> \u2013 approx. <strong>11 minutes<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Passenger trains<\/strong> \u2013 approx. <strong>14 minutes<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Freight trains<\/strong> \u2013 approx. <strong>21 minutes<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The single-line track had led to frequent <strong>halts, crossing delays, and operational bottlenecks<\/strong>, especially in the Shindawane\u2013Ambale segment. But with the new line commissioned, <strong>such disruptions are expected to be eliminated<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThe completion of doubling work up to Satara is a major step toward seamless operations in the Pune\u2013Miraj section,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.punekarnews.in\/pune-satara-rail-doubling-completed-commissioning-on-june-17-full-pune-miraj-stretch-to-be-ready-by-august\/#:~:text=This%20segment%20is%20now%20in,operations%20between%20Pune%20and%20Satara.\">said<\/a> <strong>Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Rajesh Kumar Verma<\/strong>. \u201cThis will enhance both passenger convenience and freight efficiency.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Strategic Importance of the Section<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The Pune\u2013Miraj section is a <strong>vital rail corridor in Western Maharashtra<\/strong>, connecting industrial, agricultural, and urban hubs. The doubling project spans <strong>280 kilometres<\/strong>, of which <strong>260 km is already completed<\/strong>. The final 20 km\u2014<strong>Koregaon\u2013Rahimatpur and Rahimatpur\u2013Targaon<\/strong>\u2014is expected to be ready by <strong>August 2025<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThe ghat section near Shindawane was one of the most technically challenging parts of the project,\u201d noted <strong>Senior DOM Dr. Ramdas Bhise<\/strong>. \u201cIts completion will significantly reduce halts and improve timing reliability across the corridor.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cost &amp; Timeline<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>An official from the Construction Department, Pune Division, shared that the <strong>initially sanctioned cost of \u20b92,480 crore<\/strong> has <strong>nearly doubled to \u20b94,800 crore<\/strong>, owing to <strong>phase-wise execution and infrastructure upgrades<\/strong> over the last eight years. Despite the cost rise, the benefits are expected to outweigh the investment by enabling:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Improved punctuality<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Faster train movement<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Reduced crossing wait times<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Greater freight throughput<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Final Stretch in Sight<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>inspection of the Shindawane\u2013Ambale section is scheduled for June 17<\/strong>, a key milestone in the project timeline.
