NPCI has asked all stakeholders to ensure <strong>system-level changes<\/strong> are in place before rollout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThe adjustments are intended to improve the customer experience. All members must ensure timely implementation, including any required changes at the merchant or partner end,\u201d NPCI stated.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Additional Reforms Coming From August<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In a <strong>separate circular dated May 21, 2025<\/strong>, NPCI laid out <strong>new guidelines on platform usage and API limits<\/strong>, which will be enforced from <strong>August 1, 2025<\/strong>. These changes are designed to ensure <strong>responsible usage of system resources<\/strong> and prevent transaction overloads, particularly during peak hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are the highlights:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. <strong>Balance Enquiry Limit<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Users can now make <strong>a maximum of 50 balance enquiries per day<\/strong> through UPI apps.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. <strong>List Account Requests<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This function, which allows users to see accounts linked to their mobile number, will be limited to <strong>25 requests per app per day<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. <strong>Autopay Mandate Execution<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Autopay mandates will be processed with <strong>1 primary attempt and up to 3 retries<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>These retries must occur <strong>outside peak hours<\/strong> (defined as <strong>10:00 am\u20131:00 pm<\/strong> and <strong>5:00 pm\u20139:30 pm<\/strong>).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>NPCI has directed all PSP and acquiring banks to <strong>monitor transaction volume and TPS (transactions per second)<\/strong> and align with the new thresholds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cMembers are requested to take note of this compliance requirement and communicate it to relevant stakeholders and their respective partners for implementation by 31st July 2025,\u201d the NPCI circular noted.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why These Changes Matter<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>UPI has revolutionized digital payments in India by enabling <strong>instant money transfers<\/strong>, <strong>low transaction costs<\/strong>, and <strong>seamless interoperability<\/strong> across platforms. However, as transaction volumes continue to climb\u2014especially during festivals, sale events, and salary days\u2014the <strong>system infrastructure needs optimization<\/strong> to handle the load.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>reduced response times<\/strong> and <strong>usage limits<\/strong> aim to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Minimize failures during peak traffic<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Improve consistency of user experience<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Support faster processing for banks and PSPs<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Prevent system overloads from automated requests<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These changes are part of NPCI\u2019s broader efforts to ensure <strong>scalability, stability, and fairness<\/strong> across the UPI ecosystem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>In Summary:<\/strong><br>From <strong>June 16<\/strong>, UPI users can expect faster transactions, and by <strong>August 1<\/strong>, new usage caps and system monitoring will be in place.
