In Dubai, it\u2019s <strong>three to four rounds<\/strong> per aircraft. Sometimes, engineers do not even turn up for the checks in India,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>These practices are raising questions about the overall <strong>aviation safety standards in India<\/strong>, especially as the fleet continues to grow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">India\u2019s MRO Industry: Growth on Paper, Gaps on Ground<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite current issues, <strong>India plans to grow its MRO industry from $1.7 billion in 2021 to $4 billion by 2031<\/strong>, with a <strong>CAGR of 8.9%<\/strong>. The government aims to <strong>localize 90% of India\u2019s MRO needs by 2040<\/strong>, reducing dependency on foreign service providers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the reality on the ground presents challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Indian airlines spend <strong>12\u201315% of their revenue<\/strong> on aircraft maintenance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Most <strong>engine and heavy checks<\/strong> are outsourced to <strong>foreign third-party vendors<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Only a <strong>few companies<\/strong> like <strong>Air India Engineering Services, Air Works India, Taj Air<\/strong>, and <strong>GMR Aero Technic<\/strong> are active in the domestic MRO space.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What MRO Covers<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There are four key segments in MRO:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Line Maintenance<\/strong> \u2013 Done during operating hours<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Component Maintenance<\/strong> \u2013 Engine, landing gear checks<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Airframe Maintenance &amp; Modifications<\/strong> \u2013 Takes aircraft out of service for up to 30 days<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Engine Maintenance<\/strong> \u2013 Conducted every 3\u20134 months<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, there are <strong>10 types of unscheduled\/random inspections<\/strong>, further complicating fleet readiness when systems are inefficient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Road Ahead<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>India is expected to become the <strong>third-largest buyer of commercial planes<\/strong> after the US and China.
