{"id":1295657,"date":"2025-05-30T14:19:08","date_gmt":"2025-05-30T08:49:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/?p=1295657"},"modified":"2025-05-30T14:36:12","modified_gmt":"2025-05-30T09:06:12","slug":"india-now-exporting-more-iphones-to-us-compared-to-china-76-annual-growth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/india-now-exporting-more-iphones-to-us-compared-to-china-76-annual-growth\/","title":{"rendered":"India Now Exporting More iPhones To US, Compared To China: 76% Annual Growth"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The latest estimates by market research firm Omdia revealed that iPhone exports from India to the United States soared 76% year-on-year in April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"465\" src=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Untitled-design-4-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1295662\" srcset=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Untitled-design-4-1.png 1000w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Untitled-design-4-1-300x140.png 300w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Untitled-design-4-1-768x357.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>India Overtakes China In US iPhone Shipments&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is simply underscoring Apple\u2019s accelerating pivot away from China amid shifting trade policies under President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a rough estimation, almost 3 million iPhones made in India were shipped to the US in April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This appears to be a stark contrast to Chinese shipments, which plummeted by 76% to just 900,000 units.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a significant achievement for the country as it is the first time India has consistently outpaced China in supplying iPhones to the American market, as per the media <a href=\"https:\/\/www.moneycontrol.com\/technology\/india-overtakes-china-in-us-iphone-shipments-sees-a-76-surge-article-13052037.html\">report<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A Strategic Move By Apple<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a way, this represents a shift of Apple\u2019s long-term efforts to diversify its manufacturing base.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Basically, it is part of a strategy that began during the pandemic but has gained urgency in response to recent tariffs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;It appears that Trump\u2019s \u201creciprocal tariff\u201d policy which was launched on April 2, has imposed a 30% duty on iPhones from China which is much higher compared to a 10% baseline for imports from other countries, including India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cApple\u2019s proactive adaptation was evident as the company has been preparing for this kind of trade disruption for years,\u201d said Le Xuan Chiew, research manager at Omdia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Further adding, \u201cThe April spike likely reflects strategic stockpiling ahead of tariff hikes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Interestingly, Apple\u2019s trajectory hasn\u2019t shifted, despite the tariff carve-out for consumer electronics announced on April 11.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier during May, the Apple CEO Tim Cook confirmed that most iPhones sold in the US will be made in India in the June quarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although, they have a vision that this growth may not be sustainable in the short term as Chiew cautioned that India\u2019s manufacturing capacity \u2014 while improving \u2014 remains limited.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the meantime, US demand for iPhones hovers around 20 million per quarter again, a level India is unlikely to match before 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the latest figures from April month suggest that Apple\u2019s supply chain strategy is already paying off \u2014 both in tariff savings and geopolitical risk mitigation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The latest estimates by market research firm Omdia revealed that iPhone exports from India to the United States soared 76% year-on-year in April.
