The earlier model delivered one forecast for four villages, but BFS enables <strong>individual forecasts for each village<\/strong>, enhancing disaster preparedness and agricultural planning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Powered by India\u2019s New Supercomputer Arka<\/strong><br>This breakthrough was made possible by <strong>Arka<\/strong>, a next-gen supercomputer at IITM with:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>11.77 petaflops<\/strong> computing power<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>33 petabytes<\/strong> of storage<br>Arka processes forecast data in just <strong>four hours<\/strong>, compared to the <strong>10 hours<\/strong> taken by the previous system, Pratyush.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Revolutionizing Key Sectors<\/strong><br>Earth Sciences Minister Jitendra Singh highlighted that BFS will transform:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Monsoon tracking<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Cyclone monitoring<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Flood forecasting<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Agriculture planning<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Aviation and defense<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Disaster management<\/strong><br>He noted that BFS represents India\u2019s growing prowess as the <strong>world\u2019s fourth-largest economy<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Doppler Radar Integration for Nowcasting<\/strong><br>Currently using a network of <strong>40 Doppler Weather Radars<\/strong>, BFS offers <strong>nowcasts<\/strong>\u2014ultra-short-term forecasts for the next <strong>2 hours<\/strong>\u2014which will become even more granular as the radar network expands to <strong>100 units<\/strong> nationwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>India Leads in Tropical Forecasting<\/strong><br>The BFS covers the entire <strong>tropical region<\/strong> (30\u00b0N to 30\u00b0S), aligning perfectly with India\u2019s geographic position (8.4\u00b0N to 37.6\u00b0N).
