This means passengers with confirmed tickets in Sleeper Class (SL) or Second Sitting (2S) may now be automatically upgraded to higher AC classes during chart preparation, done four hours before train departure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"465\" src=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Untitled-design-5-6.png\" alt=\"Sleeper Class Passengers To Be Auto-Upgraded To AC Class\" class=\"wp-image-1295280\" srcset=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Untitled-design-5-6.png 1000w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Untitled-design-5-6-300x140.png 300w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Untitled-design-5-6-768x357.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>No More Current Booking In AC Coaches<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This policy change effectively restricts the <strong>Current Booking (CB)<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newindianexpress.com\/states\/tamil-nadu\/2025\/May\/17\/now-travel-in-third-ac-at-the-fare-of-sleeper\">facility<\/a> in AC coaches like First AC (1A), Second AC (2A), Third AC (3A), Chair Car (CC), and Executive Class (EC). CB was previously used for last-minute bookings up to 30 minutes before departure, but with auto upgrades filling vacant seats, such slots will now be rare in AC categories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, CB will still be available for Sleeper and Second Sitting classes, where chances of vacant seats remain higher even after chart preparation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Who Gets The Auto Upgrade?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Auto upgrades will now be prioritized for confirmed passengers who have paid the <strong>full fare<\/strong> or <strong>tatkal fare<\/strong> in their class, and not for those traveling on concessional tickets. The <strong>upgrade hierarchy<\/strong> is clearly defined:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>SL \u2192 3A \u2192 2A<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2S \u2192 Vistadome 2S or CC<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2A \u2192 1A<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>CC \u2192 EC<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>A maximum of <strong>two-level upgrades<\/strong> are permitted, while premium upgrades like from 3A to 1A are not allowed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>More Efficient Seat Occupancy, But Limited Choices<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to railway officials, most AC seats get booked during peak times. But in <strong>off-peak seasons<\/strong> or routes with surplus AC capacity, more passengers from non-AC classes might get lucky with an upgrade. The idea is to maximize AC coach occupancy and make better use of available resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Final Thoughts<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With this shift, Indian Railways aims to ensure every seat in AC coaches is efficiently used while also rewarding full-fare paying passengers.
