But in practice, this rewards students who <strong>crack the pattern<\/strong> over those who truly understand the content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Full marks in <strong>language subjects<\/strong>, once unheard of, are now commonplace \u2014 thanks to answer &#8220;templates&#8221; students memorize. It&#8217;s not comprehension; it\u2019s performance art.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">False Sense of Mastery = Real-World Unreadiness<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>High marks should equal high capability, but India\u2019s job-readiness data paints a bleaker picture:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Only 25% of MBAs<\/strong>,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>20% of engineers<\/strong>,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and <strong>10% of general graduates<\/strong><br>are considered employable.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Our students are winning gold medals in simulated exams \u2014 but <strong>the pool is still dry<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why Score Inflation Still Happens<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Several system-level issues are responsible:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>NCERT-aligned exams:<\/strong> Memorize the book = score big.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Step-wise marking:<\/strong> Rewards repetition over reasoning.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Rote learning bias:<\/strong> Still dominates despite NEP&#8217;s intent.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Even with <strong>more case-based or analytical questions<\/strong>, we&#8217;re not yet measuring real understanding at scale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What CBSE Has Tried to Improve<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To its credit, CBSE has made some <strong>cosmetic but positive changes<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>No more <strong>merit lists or toppers<\/strong> to reduce stress.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Removed terms like <strong>\u2018Fail\u2019<\/strong> and <strong>\u2018First Division\u2019<\/strong> \u2014 replaced by <strong>\u2018Essential Repeat\u2019<\/strong> and grade-based reporting.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Merit certificates<\/strong> are now limited to <strong>top 0.1% per subject<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These steps humanize the system, but don\u2019t change how we assess.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Real Reform India Needs<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>What\u2019s required now is <strong>structural transformation<\/strong>, not just softer language:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Curriculum alignment with workplace skills<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Teacher training<\/strong> to shift from dictation to discussion<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Exam patterns<\/strong> that assess logic, creativity, and problem-solving \u2014 not just memory<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>NEP 2020<\/strong> provides a roadmap, but full implementation is still years away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Rethinking Success<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s time we ask ourselves:<br>Are we truly succeeding when <strong>25,000 students score 95%<\/strong>?<br>Or will success be when <strong>95% of our students feel prepared for life beyond school<\/strong>?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>High marks feel good.
