A new report reveals that Apple supplier Jabil will open a second facility in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, to assemble the plastic enclosures used in AirPods before they are shipped to China and Vietnam for final assembly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"465\" src=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/ify-59.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1294741\" srcset=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/ify-59.png 1000w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/ify-59-300x140.png 300w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/ify-59-768x357.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Jabil Expands India Presence With New Tamil Nadu Facility<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jabil, a Florida-based contract manufacturer, already operates a factory in Pune where it produces AirPods <a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiatoday.in\/technology\/news\/story\/after-iphone-apple-looks-to-double-down-on-making-airpods-in-india-with-swanky-new-tamil-nadu-factory-report-2720455-2025-05-06\">components<\/a>. With the addition of the Tiruchirappalli plant, Apple will double its local assembly capabilities. The plant is expected to become operational soon, with formal announcements likely by July.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Diversifying Away From China Amid Soaring Tariffs<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This development follows Apple\u2019s recent efforts to diversify its production away from China, driven by rising US tariffs. CEO Tim Cook said the ongoing trade pressures could cost Apple an extra 900 million dollars. To reduce the impact, Apple is shifting more iPhone production to India, with AirPods and other devices split between India and Vietnam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>India To Lead iPhone Production, Vietnam For Accessories<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apple&#8217;s new strategy places India as the hub for iPhone manufacturing for the US market, while Vietnam will handle iPads, Macs, Apple Watches, and a share of AirPods production. For non-US markets, China remains Apple\u2019s main production base. Cook also stated that most iPhones sold in the US this June quarter will originate from India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>India\u2019s Growing Role In Apple\u2019s Global Plans<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apple recently began assembling AirPods in Hyderabad through Foxconn.
