Apple\u2019s AirPlay is a widely used feature by iPhone users that enables streaming of videos, photos, and music across Apple devices and compatible smart TVs or speakers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Security Flaw \u201cAirBorne\u201d Has Been Discovered in Apple\u2019s AirPlay<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A new security flaw named “AirBorne” has been discovered, which lets hackers execute malicious code<\/a> and spread malware via WiFi-connected AirPlay devices.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The vulnerability takes advantage of the shared WiFi connection to compromise devices, according to reports.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Researchers from Oligo Security found that such attacks can travel through wireless networks, allowing cybercriminals to gain control over AirPlay-connected devices.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hackers can use this access to install malware and potentially steal personal data from Apple users, as per New York Post.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, when connected on the same network, attackers may be able to secretly eavesdrop on users’ conversations.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Common risky public WiFi locations include airports, offices, and coffee shops.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

23 Serious Vulnerabilities Identified in Apple\u2019s AirPlay Protocol and Its SDK<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oligo Security identified 23 serious vulnerabilities in Apple’s AirPlay protocol and its software development kit (SDK).
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AirBorne can exploit even inactive devices like Bluetooth speakers to bypass security and gain entry into the network.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oligo’s CTO and co-founder Gal Elbaz explained that AirPlay\u2019s wide compatibility makes it hard to patch across all affected devices, possibly taking years or never being fully fixed.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elbaz said the issue stems from vulnerabilities in a single piece of software that affects a wide range of products.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To reduce risk, users should update all AirPlay-connected devices to the latest software versions available.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Disabling AirPlay when it is not in use is another key step for safety.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apple has already released security patches to address these issues.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, many third-party devices that support AirPlay may still remain unpatched and vulnerable.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apple released iOS 18.4.1 last month, which includes multiple bug and security fixes.

To install updates, users should go to Settings > General > Software Update and tap Update Now to check for and install the latest version.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
