{"id":1294676,"date":"2025-05-07T07:07:30","date_gmt":"2025-05-07T01:37:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/?p=1294676"},"modified":"2025-05-07T07:08:05","modified_gmt":"2025-05-07T01:38:05","slug":"youtube-rolls-out-rs-149-premium-plan-that-two-users-can-share-officially","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/youtube-rolls-out-rs-149-premium-plan-that-two-users-can-share-officially\/","title":{"rendered":"Youtube Rolls Out Rs 149 Premium Plan That Two Users Can Share, Officially"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Recently YouTube has commenced piloting a new subscription tier which will allow two users to share a Premium or Music Premium membership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"465\" src=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Untitled-design-16.jpg\" alt=\"Youtube Rolls Out Rs 149 Premium Plan That Two Users Can Share, Officially\" class=\"wp-image-1294687\" srcset=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Untitled-design-16.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Untitled-design-16-300x140.jpg 300w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Untitled-design-16-768x357.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This trial appears to be currently underway in India, France, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, currently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>YouTube Testing Two-person Premium Plan<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>YouTube seems to be testing for a two-person subscription plan for Premium and Music Premium memberships in India, France, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When it comes to pricing, this plan could reportedly costs \u20b9219 and \u20b9149 per month, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Further, this plan aims to attract couples and roommates seeking savings on subscription costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This initiative holds a significance as it marks the Google-owned platform\u2019s latest effort to expand its subscription business as it looks to reduce its reliance on advertising revenue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the trial, YouTube is offering the two-person Premium plan in India for \u20b9219 per month, while the Music Premium equivalent is priced at \u20b9149 per month, the publication added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They have a condition to qualify for this as&nbsp; both the subscribers must be at least 13 years old, hold a Google account, and belong to the same Google family group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re exploring new ways to offer more flexibility and value to our Premium members, including testing a two-person Premium option, allowing two people to share a subscription at a lower price,\u201d said a YouTube spokesperson, while confirming the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/technology\/tech-news\/youtube-reportedly-tests-new-two-person-premium-plan-in-india-eligibility-pricing-and-details-11746443095111.html\">development<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Appealing To Couples &amp; Roommates<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Presently, individual YouTube Premium plans in India are priced at \u20b9149 per month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Similarly, student and family plans cost \u20b989 and \u20b9299 respectively and for Music Premium, the monthly rates are \u20b959 for students, \u20b9119 for individuals, and \u20b9179 for families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Coming to this latest plan, it is expected to appeal to couples, roommates, or any two people sharing a household and wishes to save on subscription costs while maintaining separate user profiles.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reportedly, this move mirrors very similar offerings by other streaming platforms such as Spotify\u2019s Duo plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>YouTube has been actively pushing its subscription services in recent times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The streaming platform appears to be increasing the prices in India by up to 58 per cent across various tiers in August 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Besides this, the company has also intensified its crackdown on ad blockers worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the company\u2019s April 2025 earnings call, Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai noted, \u201cSubscriptions are a key pillar of our business.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adding, \u201cWe continue to broaden our subscription portfolio, including the recent expansion of our Premium Lite pilot in the US, providing users a new way to watch most YouTube videos without ads.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Presently, Premium Lite is available in the country&#8217;s like United States, Australia, Germany, and Thailand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They are being offered ad-free viewing across categories like gaming, cooking, and education, but it excludes music videos, shorts, and background play.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Recently YouTube has commenced piloting a new subscription tier which will allow two users to share a Premium or Music Premium membership.
