Reliance Industries Ltd has commissioned its first solar panel manufacturing line and is progressing steadily on its battery storage production facilities, marking a major step in its $10-billion green energy plan announced in 2021. This plan spans renewables, battery storage, and green hydrogen as part of Reliance\u2019s goal to achieve net zero emissions by 2035. In its FY25 investor presentation, the company confirmed that the first gigawatt-scale solar PV module line is operational, producing panels with a peak capacity of 720 watts\u2014likely the largest produced by the firm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reliance Expands Green Energy with Solar, Battery, and Hydrogen Giga Factories<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initiative places Reliance alongside other domestic solar PV manufacturers like Adani, Tata, Waaree, and Vikram Solar<\/a>. It aligns with the Indian government\u2019s mandate that, starting June 2026, all clean energy projects must use domestically-produced solar modules, reducing dependency on Chinese imports and boosting local manufacturing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reliance is constructing multiple \u2018giga factories\u2019 on a 5,000-acre site in Jamnagar, Gujarat, to manufacture solar panels, battery cells, hydrogen electrolysers, and fuel cells. The solar module capacity stands at 10 GW per year and is designed to scale up to 20 GW. The company is also targeting 30 GWh of battery production, with the initial 20 GWh expandable in a modular fashion. Additionally, the firm is working on generating 150 billion units of renewable electricity and developing a green hydrogen-to-chemical complex in Kandla, Gujarat, where it owns 2,000 acres for this purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reliance Accelerates Green Push with Biogas Plants and Energy Hub<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reliance is also constructing 55 compressed biogas (CBG) plants by 2025, with 10 already operational. The company\u2019s green energy ambitions are supported by Reliance New Energy, its subsidiary, which is building a $7.2-billion integrated green energy manufacturing hub in Jamnagar. This will include production facilities for solar PV, batteries, electrolysers, semiconductors, and power electronics, along with an R&D centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through its acquisition of REC Group in 2021, Reliance is leveraging advanced solar technology from the Singapore-based firm to support its integrated energy infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
