A recent survey by LocalCircles has revealed the devastating impact of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack<\/strong> on Kashmir\u2019s booming tourism sector. The militant strike<\/strong>, which claimed at least 28 lives<\/strong>, has led to mass cancellations and growing uncertainty, just as the region was gearing up for a record-breaking travel season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kashmir Tourism in Crisis<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

According to the survey, 62% of families with bookings to Kashmir between May and December 2025<\/strong> have now cancelled<\/a><\/strong> their plans. Conducted across 361 districts<\/strong>, the survey received over 21,000 verified responses<\/strong>, reflecting a wide demographic spectrum from both urban and rural India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The attack, believed to be carried out by militants of The Resistance Front<\/strong>, has shaken traveler confidence<\/strong>, with domestic airlines receiving more than 15,000 flight cancellation or rescheduling requests<\/strong> for routes to Srinagar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From Record Tourism to Rapid Decline<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Kashmir had recorded 2.3 crore tourist arrivals in 2025<\/strong>, indicating a potential all-time high for tourism<\/strong>. However, the Pahalgam incident has cast a long shadow, threatening not only general tourism but also key religious events like the Amarnath Yatra<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tour operators are concerned<\/strong> that if the government fails to restore confidence quickly, the long-term consequences<\/strong> for Kashmir\u2019s economy could be severe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Travel Sentiments Across India<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The survey also shows a dramatic shift in travel intentions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Only 29%<\/strong> of respondents say they still plan to visit Kashmir within the next three years.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • 33%<\/strong> say their decision will depend on how effectively the government improves the security situation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Meanwhile, 38%<\/strong> of those originally planning a trip say they will still go ahead, showing some resilience<\/strong> amid fear.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    What Leaders Are Saying<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the attack<\/strong>, vowing that the perpetrators would face unprecedented consequences. \u201cThe willpower of 140 crore Indians will now break the back of the masters of terror,\u201d he declared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    J&K MLA Sajad Lone<\/strong> added that the motive behind the terror strike was to \u201ceconomically disempower Kashmir<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Unless security measures<\/strong> are swiftly reinforced and confidence restored<\/strong>, the once-thriving tourism sector in Kashmir may take years to recover from this blow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
