One important biofuel is ethanol, which may be made synthetically via methods like ethylene hydration or spontaneously by fermenting carbohydrates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to fuel, ethanol is utilized in the production of organic compounds, industrial solvents, and pharmaceutical products <\/a>such as disinfectants and antiseptics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In India, ethanol blending began as an experimental operation in 2001.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By March 2025, public sector oil marketing corporations (OMCs) had increased their ethanol blending from 10% in June 2022 to 20%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Engines from the majority of Indian automakers (OEMs) have already been converted to run on E20 fuel, which is gasoline with 20% ethanol added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beginning in April 2025, the Ethanol Blended Petrol (EBP) program requires the introduction of automobiles that meet E20 standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vehicles That Use E20 Fuel May Exhibit Somewhat Lower Mileage<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

When compared to vehicles that operate entirely on gasoline, vehicles that use E20 fuel may exhibit somewhat lower mileage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

India’s initial goal was to mix 20% ethanol by 2030, however the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) advanced the goal to 2025 in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to a statement released by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas on January 29, 2025, ethanol blending has replaced about 193 lakh metric tons of crude oil (up to December 31, 2024) and saved over \u20b91.13 lakh crore in foreign money during the past ten years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri introduced Ethanol 100 fuel in a few locations in Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi in March 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With a high octane rating (100\u2013105), ethanol 100 fuel is ideal for high-performance engines since it provides more power and efficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Flex-fuel cars, which run on different ethanol-petrol mixtures, may also utilize Ethanol 100.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
