Starting April 15, 2025<\/strong>, Delhi Airport\u2019s Terminal 2 will shut down<\/strong> for extensive repair work, prompting a reshuffle that will affect thousands of passengers daily. Domestic carriers like IndiGo and Akasa<\/strong> will move all operations to Terminal 1<\/strong>, which will now operate at 100% capacity<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IndiGo, Akasa Shift to T1<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

IndiGo, India\u2019s largest airline, announced that from April 15, all flights currently departing<\/a> from or arriving at Terminal 2 will operate via Terminal 1<\/strong>. It will now function from both Terminal 1 and Terminal 3<\/strong>, with T3 continuing to handle select operations, especially international ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Akasa Air will also shift entirely to Terminal 1 and has advised passengers to check flight details before heading to the airport<\/strong>. Passengers are urged to reconfirm terminal information<\/strong> via the airline apps or official websites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No Air Train Yet: DIAL Tries Workarounds<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

While Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 are 7 km apart<\/strong>, there is no air train or dedicated connector yet<\/strong>\u2014a massive inconvenience for connecting passengers. With rising international-domestic transit traffic (thanks to IndiGo and Air India network expansions<\/strong>), Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) has started baggage transfer trials<\/strong> between the terminals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DIAL CEO Videh Kumar Jaipuriar<\/strong> said trials are being conducted to ensure seamless airside baggage transfer<\/strong>, so international passengers arriving at T3 can drop their checked baggage at customs<\/strong> and have it delivered directly to T1<\/strong>, avoiding bus rides with luggage in tow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

120-Minute Connection Promise<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

DIAL has committed to the Civil Aviation Ministry<\/strong> that all T1 to T3 connections will be handled within 120 minutes<\/strong>. The airport operator aims to improve the passenger experience<\/strong>, even without an automated terminal connector. Until the planned air train<\/strong> is ready, this baggage transfer system could be a crucial fix.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
