Big Change for Two-Wheeler Owners<\/strong>
If you love your petrol bike, brace for change. Delhi\u2019s draft EV Policy 2.0 proposes a complete ban on all fossil fuel-powered two-wheelers \u2014 petrol, diesel, and even CNG \u2014 starting August 15, 2026. This move is part of a larger mission to combat the capital\u2019s severe air pollution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Autos, Garbage Vehicles, and City Buses Also Targeted<\/strong>
The policy also aims to phase out CNG auto-rickshaws. From August 15, 2025, no new CNG autos can be registered,<\/a> and existing permits will not be renewed. Government-run vehicles like garbage trucks and buses will also shift to electric by the end of 2027. Only electric auto permits will be issued going forward, and older vehicles must be retrofitted or replaced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Restrictions for Private Car Owners<\/strong>
The policy does not spare car owners either. It recommends that people who already own two vehicles must opt for an electric car if they plan to buy a third. This rule will take effect after the policy is officially notified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air Pollution at the Core<\/strong>
Delhi has long battled dangerous air pollution levels, especially during winters. The main culprits include vehicle emissions, construction dust, factory smoke, and stubble burning in nearby states. Firecrackers and burning of waste only make it worse. These pollutants contribute to serious health issues, particularly for children and the elderly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What Lies Ahead<\/strong>
While the draft policy is mostly final, officials say some rules \u2014 especially those regarding two-wheelers \u2014 could be revised before cabinet approval. The current EV policy, which expired on March 31, has been extended for a short period and might soon be replaced by this stricter version.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
