However, in recent weeks, many of these employees have been let go without any prior notice or opportunity to improve their performance, sources said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The employees who were fired received <strong>one month&#8217;s salary<\/strong> as compensation, but the layoffs were reportedly based on issues like poor performance and punctuality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>AI Automation Behind Job Cuts<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Zomato&#8217;s decision to reduce its customer support team is part of a broader strategy to cut costs, which includes leveraging <strong>artificial intelligence (AI) to <a href=\"https:\/\/hr.economictimes.indiatimes.com\/news\/workplace-4-0\/talent-management\/zomato-cuts-up-to-600-jobs-in-customer-support-amid-slowdown-report\/119891013?utm_source=Mailer&amp;utm_medium=newsletter&amp;utm_campaign=ethr_news_2025-04-02&amp;dt=2025-04-02&amp;em=bW9odWxAdHJhay5pbg==\">automate customer support functions<\/a><\/strong>, reports indicate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This move is seen as an attempt to reduce operational expenses as the company faces <strong>slower growth and higher losses<\/strong> in its business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When contacted, the online food aggregator <strong>declined to comment<\/strong> on the layoffs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Employee Concerns &amp; Market Impact<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The layoffs have affected employees in cities like <strong>Gurugram and Hyderabad<\/strong>, raising concerns among the remaining workforce regarding <strong>job security<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Several affected employees took to social media to share their experiences, with one user claiming that around <strong>300 people were fired without prior warning<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the layoffs, <strong>Zomato&#8217;s stock saw a slight increase<\/strong> of 0.84 per cent during Tuesday&#8217;s intra-day trading session, closing at <strong>Rs 203.20 per share<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Analysts&#8217; Take: BofA Downgrades Zomato<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Last month, <strong>Bank of America (BofA)<\/strong> downgraded its rating on Zomato, citing concerns over <strong>slowing food delivery growth<\/strong> and <strong>increasing competition<\/strong> in the quick commerce sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The brokerage <strong>revised Zomato\u2019s rating from &#8216;buy&#8217; to &#8216;neutral&#8217;<\/strong> and reduced its <strong>target price from Rs 300 to Rs 250<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the downgrade, some analysts remain optimistic about <strong>Zomato\u2019s medium-term prospects<\/strong>, citing its expanding quick commerce initiatives.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Zomato, the popular online food delivery platform, has reportedly laid off up to 600 customer support employees, just a year after hiring them.
