{"id":1292466,"date":"2025-03-24T08:12:49","date_gmt":"2025-03-24T02:42:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/?p=1292466"},"modified":"2025-03-24T08:13:24","modified_gmt":"2025-03-24T02:43:24","slug":"these-upi-ids-will-be-deleted-forever-starting-april-1st","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/these-upi-ids-will-be-deleted-forever-starting-april-1st\/","title":{"rendered":"These UPI IDs Will Be Deleted Forever Starting April 1st"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Earlier the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) notified that it will start removing UPI IDs associated with inactive mobile numbers starting next month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"465\" src=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Untitled-design-2-6.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1292474\" srcset=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Untitled-design-2-6.png 1000w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Untitled-design-2-6-300x140.png 300w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Untitled-design-2-6-768x357.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This is crucial as this may stop many from making digital transactions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>NPCI Unlinking UPI IDs From Inactive Numbers<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a recent <a href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/article\/technology\/tech-news-technology\/npci-upi-id-inactive-reassigned-old-mobile-numbers-unlink-bank-account-9896964\/\">announcement<\/a>, NPCI said that it would be unlinking UPI IDs associated with inactive mobile numbers starting from April 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In simple words, the people who use GPay, PhonePe and UPI apps for mobile payments won\u2019t be able to use their inactive or reassigned mobile number to complete transactions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In case you are using a mobile number which&nbsp; has been inactive for an extended period then as per the NPCI\u2019s new guidelines, banks may remove it from their account records and suspend UPI services for your account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NPCI reached this decision because some inactive mobile numbers are causing technical problems in the banking and UPI system.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Besides this, this move will also help in&nbsp; decreasing the risk of fraud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As it is likely to happen if you are using an UPI enabled account with a mobile number that has been reassigned to someone else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How Does This Affect?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Consider a case where the user has recently switched to a new mobile number but his bank account is still linked to his old mobile number.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here, there are chances that the user may face problems.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please note here that these new guidelines will also affect the users who are still using UPI with their inactive and reassigned mobile numbers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Or the ones who have surrendered their SIM without updating it in their bank records.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How To Prevent This?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The payment authority suggests users should check their mobile numbers linked to unused bank accounts and activate them as soon as possible as this would prevent them from unlinking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Besides this, the user should also update your old inactive number and replace it with the current one before the April 1 deadline as this would avoid any service disruption.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Earlier the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) notified that it will start removing UPI IDs associated with inactive mobile numbers starting next month.
