As of October 2024<\/strong>, firms produced $151.93 billion worth of goods<\/strong>, just 37% of the initial goal<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moreover, only $1.73 billion in incentives<\/strong> had been disbursed, representing less than 8% of the allocated funds<\/a><\/strong>. Bureaucratic delays and stringent compliance requirements led to frustration among companies, further stalling progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While sectors like mobile phones<\/strong> and pharmaceuticals<\/strong> saw remarkable growth, others lagged. India\u2019s mobile phone production surged by 63%<\/strong> to reach $49 billion<\/strong> in FY24, with global brands like Apple<\/strong> increasing manufacturing in the country. Pharmaceutical exports also nearly doubled, reaching $27.85 billion<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, industries like solar panels<\/strong>, steel<\/strong>, and textiles<\/strong> struggled. Reports indicated that eight out of twelve solar firms<\/strong> under the scheme, including major players like Reliance<\/strong> and Adani<\/strong>, failed to meet their targets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Government’s Future Plans<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Despite the program’s conclusion, the government remains committed to strengthening domestic manufacturing. Alternatives being considered include investment reimbursements<\/strong> to provide quicker financial support to companies. Unlike PLI, this approach would help companies recover setup costs faster without waiting for production milestones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government also aims to simplify regulatory procedures and reduce bureaucratic hurdles to encourage smoother operations for businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
