In a groundbreaking move, the Delhi government has announced that no new petrol, diesel, or CNG two-wheelers will be registered in the city starting August 2026. This is a major step to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) and cut down pollution levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To make this transition smoother, the government is introducing purchase incentives for EV buyers. Stricter regulations will ensure effective compliance with the policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Charging Infrastructure Expansion on the Horizon<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The government will install over 13,200 charging stations across Delhi to facilitate the growing number of electric vehicles. New buildings and public spaces will have mandatory charging points. Additionally, fast-charging corridors will be developed along major roads like Ring Road and Outer Ring Road, ensuring convenience for EV users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Private and semi-public charging stations will also receive capital subsidies to expand the network further.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Goodbye CNG Autos: Delhi Phases Out ICE Three-Wheelers by 2025<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The policy also mandates that no fossil fuel-powered three-wheelers will be registered in Delhi from August 2025. Existing CNG auto permits will be converted into e-auto permits. Furthermore, all CNG autos older than 10 years will need to be replaced with electric alternatives or retrofitted with electric powertrains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a major sustainability push, municipal garbage collection vehicles operated by the MCD, DJB, and other civic bodies will be entirely electric by 2027.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Greener Future for Public Transport<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Delhi\u2019s public transport network is set for an overhaul. The government plans to increase the electric bus fleet to 3,000 buses by the end of this year. Additionally, all government vehicles in Delhi will transition to electric, setting a strong example for citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Financial Support Through State EV Fund<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

To fund the incentives, Delhi will create a State EV Fund sourced through green levies, pollution cess, and aggregator license fees. Further, citizens will be encouraged to scrap old vehicles or retrofit them with electric powertrains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Targeting a Greener Capital by 2030<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The newly formed BJP government is determined to ensure that 95% of all new vehicle registrations in Delhi are electric by 2027, aiming for 98% EV adoption by 2030. While the 2024 target of 25% EV registrations fell short at 13-14%, the government is optimistic that this new policy will accelerate progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Delhi Clean Mobility Centre for Oversight<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

To ensure effective implementation, the government will establish the Delhi Clean Mobility Centre (DCMC). This organization will monitor the progress of the EV policy, enforce regulations, and ensure seamless execution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
